New Look, New Song and Half Term Recordings

If you’re reading this then you’ve probably noticed there’s been an update to my blog!

Having had the last theme for a while I fancied a change to something a little more creative. This one takes slightly longer to load but I think it’s nice…Hope you like it!

New Song!

Over the last few months I’ve been re-recording, mixing and mastering ‘Escape this Town’ to fix some of the things that slipped through the net last year and I released the first new single from it a few weeks back.

You can download the fully re-mastered track ‘Escape this Town’ for free here or if you’re feeling generous it’s on iTunes and Amazon (You can also listen for free on Spotify)

Geography Rocks EP

Finally in half term Dave came up to stay and we spent 2 days trying to record, mix and master and EP of Dave’s geography songs (which he actually sings to his classes) and we did it!

Geography Songs is available to download here or on iTunes here

They’re pretty catchy and it was great fun to try and do something of good quality in 2 days…and I think we managed it. I also got to play drums and record some bass and guitars on the record.

You can watch a ‘Making of Geography Songs’ video below

Blog Update!

Long term followers of my blog will know that I’m always tweaking the theme of the blog and trying to make it more user friendly.

With my previous template update back in September I began to include social networking links plus some ‘featured posts’ containing posts that I thought were more worth reading than others.

This new theme is better!

I’ve spent the last 2 days trying to tweak it and get it to work and so here are the new marktiddy.co.uk features:

search - search results appear as a list of blog titles making them easier to navigate

social networking - the links at the top right make finding me on twitter, youtube, facebook, myspace and last.fm easier!

featured posts - the featured posts section was a pain to configure on this new blog system but it seems to work, if you click the arrows you can navigate it nice and easily!

random images - I get bored of whatever picture of me is on the blog so these rotate…isn’t that nice!

Last.fm - the last.fm feed down the sidebar is now some beautiful album covers of what I’ve been listening to in the last week…nice!

I think that’s the big changes…it’s easier to use (I hope) so continue reading and enjoying (hopefully). Serious blog post in the next few days!

Life, Moving, Wedding and Street Invasion

So perhaps the other Italy posts never quite happened…I seriously have so much I want to blog on at the moment but so little time and I suspect next week I’ll have lots to blog, more time but so little internet!

Next Monday I move to South Cave ready to start my new job as the Youth Facilitator for the Hunsley Christian Youth Trust from September…summer seems to be flying by and I’m feeling a little sad to know that it may be a while before I see everyone I know in Yarmouth but I’m excited about the new job and having a house and being able to moan about bills and council tax!

This week contents insurance is on my to-do list alongside getting some telephone numbers to phone electricity folk next week…today I arranged for the Post Office to re-connect the phone line…and for free…cashback! (If you want a phone line re-connected the Post Office don’t charge and don’t have a contract which makes them way better than BT!).

I haven’t just been packing boxes and avoiding Italy blogs I’ve been busy working on our wedding website which is getting near to being finished (markandjoanna.co.uk) and I have done our first wedding blog on their and in the next few days will update it more as we lay down deposits on venues and churches…how exciting! If you don’t know the Mark/Jo wedding is next year on the 17th July…this time next year I’ll have a wife!!!

I think so far I have 5 friends getting married next year so it seems to be a good year for weddings…2010 makes it easy to work out anniversaries!!! I have also been asked by Dave to be his best man for his wedding two weeks after mine and Jo’s which is pretty awesome and I’m looking forward to that too…all if good!

Street Invasion

Last week I was lucky enough to be involved in Street Invasion in Peterborough. Street Invasion saw 80 young people come together to serve God at 8 bases across the whole of Peterborough, doing social action, training/learning illustrations and inviting young people off the streets into an open youth club. Myself and Simon Campling (who is a genius at Newton Faulkner covers!) headed up the City Centre base and although we had less youth than the other venues what we had was perfect for St Mary’s! In other parts of the city over 50 young people would turn up to just one venue…how crazy is that? God was doing some awesome things in the lives of young people on the streets and those who were street invaders!

Anyway until I remember to blog on Italy later this week…goodnight!

Letton Hall…

When you read this I shall have just arrived at Letton Hall near Dereham to help set up for a 4 day residential with 90 or so young people arriving shortly after.

Once again I seem to have done my usual lack of blogging followed by a major blog-binge however I wanted to post on this!

In June I leave Peterborough and that is very likely to mean that this week’s Letton Hall residential will be the last for a while and for me it’s the end of an era.

I must have been 12/13 when I first went to Letton with St Andrew’s Church, I did some of my first Youth Work at Letton and it’s a place full of memories and indeed a place where a lot of my faith was formed & chewed over.

To look back from a 13 year old me attending a Letton weekend to a 22 year old me leading worship and seminars at a Letton almost 10 years on is quite strange.

Anyway that’s all I have to say…I shall be back blogging at the weekend!

Random things…

So firstly I know the few interesting posts promised haven’t surfaced yet but they will do in the next few days.

Secondly my computer rebuild the other day established a dead motherboard, so I have since thrown some components up onto ebay and shoved others together to make a new machine which although I probably can’t sell makes a nice project!

Finally the SSG saga continues as ‘Brewer’ of SSG e-mails many bloggers reporting on the SSG news requesting that they remove content with threats of legal action, Dave Walker has had to remove his posts, however Reverened Norton is standing up for himself! – Link here

Although I don’t know if any SSG bookshops (formally SPCK) are still open can I urge you to boycott them (see link at the top of this blog) if you find them…and let SSG know how unhappy you are with their ethics as a company…in particular a Christian company and how they have treated their staff.

End of break!

Hopefully this post will represent the end of Mark the silent blogger and be the start of me blogging a bit more regually…It’s been a manic few weeks with so much going on, I’ve been all over country including Peterborough, Minehead, Sheffield and Great Yarmouth (a couple of times!) so life’s been a bit crazy.

Unfortunately I cannot promise more blogs because the next six weeks are set to become the busiest of the entire Oasis course, I basically have 2 essays to do (which aren’t the nicest essays ever) and also a big-ass portfolio which will basically be me proving I can do youth work (ie ticking little government boxes) with evidence from my last 2 years work…it’s so much to do but I’m hoping to make a real start/progress tomorrow…so expect to find me somewhere covered in paper tomorrow!

Before I’m 30…

In the last week I heard of someone else’s list of things to do before 30 which included ‘have sex 1000 times…999 to go’ (or something like that’), in turn that reminded me of Benvolio’s list from a while ago which included ‘have sex whilst playing goldeneye’ (why do most male’s ‘before I’m 30′ list include sex?)…however I’m now pondering if I should make a list…and if so what should be on it…so as I ponder feel free to comment with suggestions
