Chatsworth Photos

As promised here are a few photos from me and Jo’s trip to Chatsworth house (big house!) on friday, the whole place was done up for Christmas which was pretty rad (sorry Ben!), each room had a different colour/theme. I took over 100 photos (or we did between us) but here’s some favourites…

Good Train Delays

So yesterday for the first time ever a train delay pleased me…I got into Peterborough station at 5.39 expecting an hour wait until my 6.39 train to doncaster (and then onto sheffield) only to find the 6.39 had been cancelled, so the nice lady at the check out validated my ticket for any train and I hopped on the 5.53…rock on!

In other transport news I discovered how expensive a bus is today as I got a bus to Chatsworth (big country house – pictures to follow tomorrow or sunday) which was cool, however the fare wasn’t so cool…in fact it cost about the same (for a 25 minute journey) as it would for me to bus from Peterborough to Great Yarmouth (3 and a half hour journey)…having moaned about fuel prices recently I can’t help but feel that until public transport is actually cheaper than using a car, and until it actually turns up on time (and doesn’t make you feel like you’ve ridden naked on the back of a camel with spikes on) that we will never be able to switch from our cars to public transport…

and of course rising fuel prices is a catch-22 because as fuel prices rise, bus companies spend more on fuel and in turn up the fairs…good move Mr Brown!

Finally today I purchased Rob Bells book ‘Sex God’ and I’m hoping to read it (or part of it) on the train tomorrow…expect a review soon

Serj Tankian, Worship Leading & Something Else

The man on the left is a guy called Serj Tankian, he was the singer of System Of A Down and is now releasing a solo project, from what I’ve heard it’s really good, a lot like System Of A Down’s early stuff just better produced. Have a listen www.myspace.com/serjtankian

Secondly just thought I’d state that I’m loving worship leading at the moment, we had a youth band practice last night which was really good.

Thirdly (hence the ‘something else’ in the title), I finished reading Rob Bell’s ‘Velvet Elvis’ (book), a couple of weeks ago, it’s really good and I’d recommend it, as with all Christian books take it with a pinch of salt, some of his theology I didn’t quite agree with but it was an interesting and challenging book. I’m currently reading Yaney’s book on Grace. (I think I mentioned velvet elvis on a previous blog!)

Normal Blogging Resumes Shortly

Just thought I’d post to say ‘grr essay’!

I’m currently writing the first practice recording of the year for uni, it’s weird trying to get back into writing essay mode, I know there’s lots of youthwork issues involved in what I’m writing only problem is I can’t think of them.

I got to see Jo friday afternoon and saturday in Sheffield where she’s at uni which was cool, saw a ‘Stop The Traffick’ musical on friday evening, however it seemed to me to be more like a slideshow but with songs and singer, never-the-less it was ok, quite informative just not a musical!

Also went Salsa’ing on saturday (sssh!), which was actually pretty cool, my legs didn’t get too tangled and no poor unsuspecting people got flattened feet so it’s all good.

Anyway back in Peterborough and back to essay, I’m gonna aim to have it done by half five which could be interesting!

I’m gonna try and update the blog mp3 player later too!

Been a while…

It seems like forever since I wrote anything remotely serious on my blog, I guess I’ve been so busy over the summer I just haven’t been thinking much!

Summer however is drawing to a close and friday I move back to Peterborough for what is potentially my final year there. This next year is going to be strange because I don’t quite know how it’s going to work, Jo is going to start uni in Sheffield so many-a-day-off will be spent up there no doubt but how that’ll work will remain a mystery for a few weeks.

On the 21st September I have a youth camp to run which’ll be lots of fun and I’m really looking forward to it, uni kicks off with a residential next week and I have a damn big theology book to start and finish before that, however this week has filled up already.

I feel like I should have some proper thought on this blog but I’m not entirely sure what!

One thing I was thinking today was about weddings and how they’re a good chance to evangalise, let’s face it, it’s easy to get non-Christians into a church for a wedding. Why not take the opportunity to make it a proper sharing of the gospel as well as the wedding, a chance to show people what church is about, with worship and praise. After all a wedding should be a celebration!!!

Anyway there’s my 2-cents worth and I’m off to bed!

Not much on the blog front

Hello readers,
I aprechiate not much has been happening here on planet ‘tarkmiddy.blogspot.com’ blog lately and I’d like to apologise and say that I have been quite busy so perhaps I shall use this blog to update you on my life for the moment.

I’m quite liking Peterborough so far this year, it feels like I’ve been back forever though, but I don’t feel that I have as much to do as last year, I guess I did too much last year really, but it’s cool because the Oasis course is getting started and in a way I’m looking forward to it, however at the same time, if I’m honest I want it to be over asap, the way I see it it’s a stepping stone for me on the way to doing the Youth Work God has called me too and part of me really wants to get out there and do God’s thing (not that this isn’t God’s thing, it is, but God’s thing with a proper salary would be nice).

Last week I crashed at Mark Pummells which was cool cause I didn’t have to come back from London both nights which meant a lay in! Tomorrow I’m doing the same and we’re going out which should be fun, a night out in London! yay! I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t mind London, I wouldn’t wanna live there but it’s a change.

This week both Park Road Youth Groups started up again which is cool, I’m really looking forward to where God is going to take them this year and I think he has big plans! At the same time I felt leading worship on sunday evening went well and I felt more God-lead than before which was cool, however I wish I could sing! (God if your reading this, do your stuff! teehee).

I caught up on days off yesterday and was a good day off all round, Sarah came up (or rather across) from rainy Yarmouth and we spent the day wandering round shops, bowling and watching Jimmy Carr which was great, it’s been odd not seeing her as much since being back. Yesterday evening after Sarah left I went out with Matt, John, Grace and Tom which was fun and random as always, so yeah, Peterborough so far this year is good, I’m having fun both being out and working for PRBC and doing Oasis stuff.

Anyway, a half six start suggests to me that my arse should now be in bed, so I leave you with my new weekly feature… ‘Insult of the week’
